Desiccant rotor dehumidifiers have an infinite number of applications. Numerous these are involved with food processing and related sectors, such as industrial bakeries. However, there are numerous more applications for a desiccant rotor. Protecting priceless artefacts in museums, art galleries, libraries, and archives is one of them. These include antique books and costumes, as well as upholstery and even ancient automobiles! Ice rinks also utilise this type of equipment to keep fog, puddles, and musty odours at bay. Another unique application for a desiccant rotor of the DESSICA silica gel rotors type is seed storage and preservation, where germination is the number one enemy.
The rotor is composed of 82 percent active SilicaGel and only 16 percent glass fibre; the remaining 2% is the acrylic surface coating.
The rotor passed the ASTME test E-84 with a flame index of 0 and smoke generated of 0.
There is no limit to the maximum relative humidity that the rotor can withstand as long as no droplets are introduced into the rotor during operation. After saturation in humid air, the rotor can be washed in water with a weak non-alkaline detergent.
Dry material has a density of around 240 kg/m3. In a humid climate, the media can absorb around 40% of its dry weight as moisture. The rotor's surface compression strength exceeds 200 kPa.
